Why Did You Decide to
Become a Dentist?

Originally, Dr. Hong was pursuing scientific discovery through laboratory research for her career. She was very good at it – in fact, she’d published 10 journal articles at that point and received funding for her research! However, there was something missing. She sorely wanted some artistry in her field of study, and she finally found it when she shadowed her family’s dentist and saw how he designed patient’s smiles so precisely, taking care with each individual tooth. At that point, she realized that dentistry was the ideal combination of her passion for science and art. Now, she’s excited every day to both design and build healthy, lasting dentition for patients!

Where Did You Study Dentistry?

Dr. Hong spent her college years at the University of Toronto, where she completed her Master’s in Molecular and Cellular Biology before moving on to her dental doctorate. Following graduation, she also underwent a one-year Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) residency at Temple University. Today, she commits to completing at least 100 hours of continuing education through prestigious institutes like the KOIS Center, focusing on composite artistry, occlusion, implant dentistry, digital dentistry, and orthodontic treatment. She received the ICOI Implant Fellowship in 2022 and was named a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry in 2023! In addition, Dr. Hong was honored to be among the “Top 40 Under 40” as profiled by Incisal Edge Magazine in 2023.
