Why Are Regular Dental Checkups & Cleanings Important?

While daily oral hygiene at home is absolutely essential to protect and preserve your oral health, the truth is that your tools at home cannot remove 100% of the cavity-causing plaque and bacteria that are in your mouth. It’s important that a professional takes the time to clear out those hard-to-reach spots that you regularly miss when you brush and floss (everyone has areas like these).

Along with the cleaning, a checkup gives our team the chance to make sure your teeth, gums, bite, and any existing dental work are in good shape. If we spot a problem, we can get ahead of it and treat it quickly. Plus, we can answer questions regarding your diet and daily routines in relation to your dental health.

What to Expect During a Dental Checkup

A dental checkup will start with an assistant asking you if there are any specific issues you have been dealing with, and then they will capture a full set of X-rays. From there, Dr. Hong will review these images, examine every part of your mouth, and go over her observations with you. She’ll share any concerns, educate you about possible treatment options, and answer all of your questions so you are fully informed about your oral health.

Following the exam, a dental hygienist will use Airflow technology to remove hardened plaque (tartar) from the surface of your teeth and just below the gum line. Thanks to the instrument as well as their skills, they can reach problem areas and break up buildup that is too hard for your brush. This only takes a few minutes, and afterward, they’ll apply a fluoride varnish to your teeth to give you a big boost of cavity protection.

Airflow Tech

We’re proud to use Airflow tech for all of our dental cleanings. This instrument uses a concentrated stream of air and water to cleanse the teeth, and it has a much lighter touch compared to traditional methods. It’s better suited for those with sensitive teeth or who don’t like the sound of dental instruments. It has also been shown to remove more tartar from the teeth than regular instruments, meaning you get the best of everything when it comes to your experience and health.
